Clocking out of Alaska.

As anticipated, today was a bit more relaxed compared to the the first couple days spent in Alaska. For today, our sole objective was to verify certain houses within the community that had Viva-Foundation stickers. These stickers are placed on the houses to warn everyone that that specific house has a panic button fitted within it. This panic button, once pressed, allows for emergency services to be sent to the house so as to help anyone in danger. The houses were validated by checking the addresses present within the Viva-Foundations hard copy files. If the address had changed, we updated it on the hard copy file. We also epi-collected each house, in conjunction with the handheld GPS, so as to ensure locational accuracy.
Once the houses had been collected, we sat down and further discussed our project idea with Victoria. The feedback sounded a lot better than the feedback for the initial idea which gave us a lot more hope-A light at the end of a very long tunnel if you will.
Once we had all clambered back onto the bus, it was time to officially clock out of Alaska. Visiting Alaska has bought upon us a lot of humility and insight into the daily struggles of our fellow South African. We, the Alaskan Assimilators, really hope to create a project that will not only tick the boxes of the marking sheet but also alleviate some of the harsh realities of the Alaskan communities lives.
So for now,
Alaskan Assimilators clocking out.
