Our project proposals are due next Monday so it is crunch time- time to finalize our project idea and present it within a report. Were 20 pages down and still going strong. Phew! Let's just say this is harder than it looks.
The project idea we have decided on is "Project Clean Alaska". A recycling initiative within the Alaskan community. The drive behind this initiative is due to the fact that Alaska, as all informal settlements do, struggles with waste removal. Most waste is dumped in surrounding water bodies, informal landfills or simply tossed on the ground. The community is visited by the City of Tshwane waste removal trucks every Thursday but the trucks can only access a tiny portion of the community due to the lack of truck worthy roads.
The project is mainly concerned with finding optimal locations for bins to be placed within the community. These bins will be for paper, plastic and glass so that the community can effectively and efficiently recycle their waste. This waste material can then be sold to a buy-back centre therefore generating income and jobs within the community.
Stay in tune for further progress within the project.
Until next time,
Alaskan Assimilators signing out.
